IN VITRO / 2015 / installation / various materials
In Vitro represents the original ice piece extracted from the Bossons glacier in the French Alps. The water was transported to the Netherlands and replicated using the technology of 3D printing.
The piece is kept in a showcase and consequently exposed to melting. The sink at the bottom of the showcase collects the water in a tank, which is used to release the water in the freezer. When a chunk of ice fully melts, a new one is reproduced in the freezing box.
The title reffers to biological processes or reactions) made to occur outside the living organism in an artificial environment, such as a culture medium. Duration of the recycling event is 40 - 60 hours. Original piece contains the volume of 25 liters. The piece is different each time, depending on the conditions of the room where it is presented.
